“You spend your career supporting others, but who
supports you?“
If you are a social worker, healthcare professional, therapist, teacher, police officer, solicitor, family support worker or another professional working on the frontline, you may spend every
day helping other people through crisis, trauma, conflict and emotional distress. You’re expected to remain calm, make difficult decisions, solve problems and keep going, even when you’re running on empty.
Over time, that emotional load can become heavy.
Burnout, compassion fatigue, anxiety, overthinking, poor sleep, relationship difficulties and emotional exhaustion are common among people in helping professions, yet many continue carrying the weight alone. My practice was built with people like you in mind.
Why I Understand Frontline Work
I’m Kamarun Kalam, a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist with over 25 years of professional experience working alongside individuals, couples and families during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
Before becoming a full-time therapist, I spent many years as a Social Worker and Family Mediator, working within complex systems where safeguarding, conflict, risk, trauma and high-stakes decision-making were part of everyday life.
Those experiences shaped the therapist I am today.
I understand what it’s like to carry responsibility for other people’s wellbeing. I understand the emotional impact of difficult conversations, managing conflict, making decisions that affect families and balancing compassion with professional accountability.
While every profession is different, many frontline roles share the same emotional demands. That means you don’t have to spend your first few sessions explaining why your work affects
you the way it does.
Therapy That Understands the Reality Behind the Job
Many of my clients tell me they feel they have to keep everything together at work whilst quietly struggling themselves.
Some feel emotionally exhausted.
Others have lost confidence. Some are carrying the effects of traumatic incidents. Others feel disconnected from their partners, families or even from themselves.
Therapy offers a confidential space where you can remove the professional mask and simply
be yourself. Together we can explore what’s happening beneath the surface, understand the patterns keeping you stuck and develop healthier ways of coping without losing the compassion that
makes you good at what you do.

• Anxiety and chronic stress
• Trauma and secondary traumatic stress

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Sometimes having a dedicated space to think, reflect and process your experiences can make all the difference.
My Therapeutic Approach
Every client is different, so I tailor therapy to your individual needs.
My work draws on evidence informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred, Emotion Focussed, Holistic Integrative techniques. I combine mind and body Somatic therapy, attachment informed, and trauma informed therapy alongside
many others. Where appropriate, I also integrate principles from the Psychodynamic Approach to Couples Therapy when working with relationship dynamics.
Rather than simply treating symptoms, I aim to help you understand why you feel the way you do, strengthen your resilience and create lasting change. Therapy is collaborative. It isn’t about being told what to do.
It’s about developing greater self-awareness, emotional balance and confidence to navigate both work and life.
Helping the Helpers
For decades, I have supported people through trauma, conflict, relationship breakdown, safeguarding concerns and major life challenges.
Now, one of my greatest passions is supporting the people who spend their own careers helping everyone else.
Looking after yourself isn’t a luxury.
It’s part of being able to continue looking after others. Self care is not selfish it’s a necessity especially for those in front line caring roles because as the saying goes “you can’t pour from an empty cup.”
If you’re ready to prioritise your own wellbeing, I’d be honoured to support you.
